Set up a small business, work a maximum of 20 hours per week, and spend the rest of the time hanging out on the outskirts of academia, readin' articles and talking to the authors of said articles. (It works even better in Israel.)

Actually, my stipend's run out. I have a work-study job. But my husband's a scientist, so we do manage to pay the rent.
